COURSE 02 · LIP BLUSH & LIP TATTOOING · FOREST HILL

Lip Tattoo Course: plan the shape, understand the colour, then practise the technique

Our lip tattoo course is hands-on, face-to-face training in lip blush and lip tattooing in Forest Hill, Melbourne. You learn in a small class taught directly by Olha Po, a licensed cosmetic tattoo artist who has worked professionally since 2016.

Lips aren’t brows. The skin is softer, the colour shifts more as it heals, and the shape has to suit a moving face. That’s why the course spends real time on mapping, colour theory and pigment choice before you move on to technique.

Before the needle, for lips

A common misconception is that learning cosmetic tattooing is just about running a machine and following a design. On lips, the planning and judgement matter just as much as the hand.

How we teach the pre-draw stage →

STEP — LIP MAPPING

Mapping and shape planning

Reading the natural lip line, checking symmetry and planning a shape that suits the client’s face, rather than forcing a template.

STEP — COLOUR THEORY

Colour theory on lips

How natural lip tone, undertones and healing affect the colour you see, and why a shade in the bottle can look different on the lip.

STEP — PIGMENT CHOICE

Choosing pigment

Choosing and adjusting pigment for lip blush and fuller lip tattooing, and explaining realistic colour expectations to clients.

STEP — SKIN & HYGIENE

Hygiene and preparation

Setting up a clean workspace, handling single-use materials and looking after delicate lip skin before and during the procedure.

STEP — TECHNIQUE PRACTICE

Technique practice

Practising hand position, depth control and even, soft shading under close guidance, with feedback as you go.

STEP — AFTERCARE

Aftercare guidance

What clients need to know after a lip procedure, and how to explain healing clearly and responsibly.

WHO IT SUITS

Beginner or already working in beauty?

If you're a beginner

You don’t need previous tattoo experience to start learning. We begin with the foundations: lip anatomy, mapping, colour and hygiene, so technique has something solid to build on. If you’re unsure where to begin, read Learning Cosmetic Tattooing: Where to Start.

If you're a beauty professional

If you already work in beauty or perform brow tattooing, the course helps you add lip blush and lip tattooing, or improve how you work on lips. You may also want to look at the Eyebrow Tattoo Course or the Cosmetic Tattoo Course Package.

LIPS | BROWS

Lips aren't brows

If you’ve trained on brows, or plan to, much of the method feels familiar: measure first, then work. On lips, the shape, the colour and the hand all ask for different judgement. Here is how the lip course approaches each one, next to brow work.

ON LIPS

Lip blush & lip tattooing

Shape planning. You read the natural lip line and check symmetry, then plan a shape that suits a mouth that moves when the client talks and smiles.

Colour. You work with natural lip tone and undertones, and learn why colour on lips can shift more as it heals.

Technique. You practise soft, even shading on softer, more delicate skin, for both lip blush and fuller lip tattooing.

ON BROWS

Eyebrow tattooing

Shape planning. You measure the face and map the brow for symmetry before any pre-draw.

Colour. You choose pigment to suit the client’s hair and skin undertone, and learn how it can settle over time.

Technique. You build hand control for powder and ombre shading. Microblading strokes are taught separately. See the Eyebrow Tattoo Course.
